If you love crunchy, healthy snacks, Airfryer sweet potato chips are the perfect option for you! As well as being delicious and low-cost, they're super easy to make and ready in just a few minutes. Sweet potatoes are rich in fiber, antioxidants and vitamins, making this recipe a nutritious alternative to traditional potato chips. The best part is that, with the Airfryer, you can get crispy, golden chips with a minimum amount of oil.

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium sweet potatoes (preferably purple or orange sweet potatoes)
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons of olive oil or coconut oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Additional spices (optional): garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, paprika, rosemary or thyme

Directions:

  1. Prepare the sweet potatoesWash the sweet potatoes well to remove any dirt, as the peel can be kept on, which will help keep the chips crispy. If you prefer, you can peel the potatoes. Then cut the potatoes into thin slices (like chips). The thinner the slices, the crispier they will be. You can use a mandoline to ensure that the slices are very even.
  2. Leave to soak (optional, but recommended)To make the chips even crispier, you can soak the sweet potato slices in water for about 30 minutes. This helps remove excess starch and improves crispiness. After this time, dry the slices well with a clean tea towel or paper towel.
  3. Season the slicesPlace the sweet potato slices in a bowl and add the olive oil or coconut oil. Mix well so that all the slices are lightly coated with the oil. Then add the salt, black pepper and any spices you like, such as garlic powder, onion powder, rosemary or oregano. Stir well so that the spices spread evenly.
  4. Preheat the Airfryer: Preheat your Airfryer to 180°C for about 3 to 5 minutes. This helps ensure that the chips are crispy right from the start.
  5. Shape the slices in the Airfryer basketPlace the sweet potato slices in the Airfryer basket, but don't overload it, to ensure that they are well distributed and cook evenly. If necessary, do this in two or more stages, depending on the size of your Airfryer.
  6. Bake the chipsCook the slices at 180°C for about 15 to 20 minutes, stirring halfway through so that they are evenly browned and crispy. The time may vary depending on the thickness of the slices and the make/model of your Airfryer, so keep an eye on them so they don't burn. If you like crispier chips, you can leave them in for longer.
  7. FinalizationWhen the chips are golden and crispy, remove them from the Airfryer and let them cool down a little before serving. This will help improve the crispiness even more.

Tips for Variation:

  • Mix sweet potatoes with regular potatoesIf you want a change, you can mix sweet potatoes and regular potatoes, creating a mix of crunchy and colorful chips.
  • Creative spicesTry other spices such as curry, cayenne pepper or even a pinch of brown sugar, which creates an incredible sweet and salty contrast.
  • Add parmesan cheeseFor an even tastier touch, you can add a little grated Parmesan cheese to the chips as soon as they come out of the Airfryer.
