Ingredients

  • 1 can of condensed milk (395 g)
  • 2 cups (tea) of grated coconut (fresh or dried, preferably unsweetened)
  • 1 cup (tea) of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 cup (tea) of milk (optional, for a creamier coconut candy)
  • Ground cinnamon for sprinkling (optional)

Preparation:

1. Mix the ingredients

In a heavy-bottomed pan, mix the condensed milk, grated coconut, sugar and butter. If you want a moister coconut candy, add the milk as well.

2. Cook until ready

Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon or spatula. Cook for about 10 to 15 minutes, until the mixture starts to come away from the bottom of the pan and becomes thick. The ideal point is when it is still creamy, but firm enough to shape with a spoon.

3. Shape the coconut sweets

Using two spoons, place portions of the coconut candy on a surface lined with parchment paper or greased with butter. Let it cool completely to set.

4. Serve or store

Once cool, store in sealed jars for up to 5 days in a cool place.

Variation Tips

  • With fresh coconut: the flavor becomes more intense and the coconut candy becomes softer.
  • With chocolate: add semisweet chocolate chips at the end of preparation for a different version.
  • With chestnuts: mix in cashews or roasted peanuts for crunch.
  • To sell: wrap in cellophane paper or plastic bags with decorative labels.
