Lasagna is a classic Italian dish, loved by many for its layers of flavor and combination of pasta, cheese, sauces, and meats. However, making traditional lasagna can take a little more time and effort. How about a quicker, more practical, and equally delicious version? Lasagna with pastry dough is the perfect solution for those who want to enjoy this delight without spending too much time in the kitchen. With a crunchy texture and a creamy filling, this version will win over your taste buds! Let's learn how to prepare it!

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of pastry dough (preferably round or square, whichever you prefer)
  • 500 g ground beef (or shredded chicken, if you prefer)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 chopped garlic cloves
  • 1 chopped tomato
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 200 g sliced ham
  • 200 g sliced mozzarella cheese
  • 200 g grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese (optional, for extra creaminess)
  • Salt, black pepper and seasonings to taste
  • Olive oil for sautéing

Directions:

1. Preparing the Meat Filling:

  • In a large saucepan, heat a little olive oil and sauté the onion and garlic until golden and fragrant.
  • Add the ground beef and cook until it loses its red color and turns golden brown, stirring occasionally to coat it well.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes and tomato sauce. Mix well and cook for another 5 to 10 minutes, until the tomatoes break down a little and form a tasty sauce.
  • Season with salt, black pepper and other seasonings of your choice, such as oregano, basil or cumin.
  • If you want a creamier lasagna, add the cream cheese and mix until incorporated into the sauce. Set aside.

2. Assembling the Lasagna:

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • In a baking dish, place a layer of pastry dough (you may need to cut the dough to fit the size of the baking dish). If you are using round pastry, you can cut it into quarters to make smaller layers.
  • On top of the dough, place a layer of meat filling. Spread it out well so that all the pieces of dough are covered.
  • Place a layer of sliced ham, followed by a layer of mozzarella cheese.
  • Repeat the process: add another layer of pastry dough, more meat filling, ham, mozzarella cheese and, finally, a little grated Parmesan cheese to add flavor and crunch.

3. Finishing the Lasagna:

  • After assembling all the layers, cover the lasagna with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven for about 25 minutes.
  • Remove the aluminum foil and leave the lasagna in the oven for another 10 to 15 minutes to brown the surface and melt the cheese.
  • If you want a crispier lasagna, you can leave the lasagna in the oven for a few extra minutes, but be careful not to burn the edges.

4. Serving:

  • Remove the lasagna from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before cutting. This helps to set the layers and makes it easier to serve.
  • Serve hot, accompanied by a green salad or rice, if preferred.

Tips:

  • Variety of Fillings: In addition to ground beef, you can substitute other fillings, such as shredded chicken, sautéed vegetables or even a combination of cheese and ham for a vegetarian version.
  • White Sauce: To give your lasagna an extra touch, you can add a layer of white sauce between the layers of meat and cheese. The white sauce will make the lasagna even creamier and more flavorful.
  • Pastry Dough: If you don't have round or square pastry dough, you can use regular pastry dough and cut it to the appropriate size. Pastry dough can also be fried before being assembled, to give it an even crispier effect.
