The Ramen is one of the most beloved dishes in Asian cuisine, with its flavorful broth and fresh ingredients, but the traditional dish can often be time-consuming and complex to prepare. If you're in a hurry or want something simple and quick, but still tasty, ramen with noodles is the perfect solution! This version of ramen is super practical and can be adapted with the ingredients you have on hand, without losing any of the flavor.

The idea here is to use instant noodles as a base and add seasonings and side dishes to create a tasty and comforting meal. Let's get to the recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of instant noodles (or instant noodles of your choice)
  • 1 liter of water
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (shoyu)
  • 1 tablespoon miso paste (optional, but recommended for a deeper flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 clove of garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 sliced onion
  • 1/4 carrot cut into thin strips
  • 1/2 cup mushrooms (shiitake or fresh mushrooms of your choice)
  • 1 tablespoon bamboo shoots (optional)
  • Chopped chives for garnish
  • Nori seaweed sheets (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)

Directions:

1. Preparing the Broth:

  • In a medium saucepan, add the liter of water and bring to a boil over medium heat.
  • When the water starts to boil, add the soy sauce, miso paste (if using), and sesame oil. Stir well until the miso paste is completely dissolved.
  • Add the minced garlic and simmer for 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to blend well. If you want a stronger broth, adjust the soy sauce to taste.

2. Cooking the Pasta:

  • Open the package of noodles and add the noodles to the pot of boiling broth. Cook according to the package instructions, usually for about 3 minutes, until the noodles are al dente.
  • While cooking, add the sliced mushrooms and thinly sliced carrots so they cook along with the pasta. These vegetables will add more flavor and texture to the dish.

3. Preparing the Egg:

  • While the pasta is cooking, prepare the hard-boiled egg. In a separate pot, place the egg and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil and cook for about 6-7 minutes until the yolk is slightly runny.
  • Remove the egg from the hot water and place it in a bowl of cold water to stop the cooking process. Once cool, peel the egg and cut it in half.

4. Assembling the Ramen:

  • When the pasta is ready, remove the pan from the heat.
  • Serve the noodles in a large bowl, pouring the hot broth with vegetables over the top.
  • Place half of the boiled egg in each bowl, yolk side up.
  • Garnish with chopped chives, sesame seeds and, if desired, add a few sheets of nori seaweed for a special touch.

5. Serving:

  • Serve the ramen immediately while it’s still piping hot. Enjoy the combination of soft noodles, flavorful broth, and crunchy vegetables.

Tips for Tastier Ramen with Noodles:

  1. Adapt the Seasonings: The noodle broth already comes with a seasoning sachet, but you can substitute or add seasonings such as soy sauce, miso paste or sesame oil to intensify the flavor.
  2. Enhance with Other Ingredients: The beauty of this recipe is its versatility. You can add other ingredients like spinach, corn, broccoli or even shredded meat to make the dish even more nutritious.
  3. Ramen-Style Egg: If you prefer, you can make the egg with a firmer yolk, cooking it for longer. But the traditional style is with a slightly runny yolk, which mixes deliciously with the broth.
  4. Vary the Type of Pasta: If you want thicker noodles, substitute another type of instant noodle, such as rice noodles or soba noodles, for the noodles. For a more authentic dish, use thinner noodles, such as ramen noodles.
  5. Vegetables: Don't limit yourself to the options listed. You can add any vegetables you like, such as shiitake mushrooms, spinach, or even bok choy, which are common in Japanese ramen.
