Cooking rice may seem simple, but the result isn’t always what you expect: burnt grains, soggy or undercooked rice. Fortunately, with the electric rice cooker, this problem is solved. The electric rice cooker makes the process easier and ensures that the rice turns out fluffy and perfect every time you prepare it. Learn a simple and delicious recipe for rice in the electric rice cooker.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of rice (white, brown or the type of your preference)
  • 2 cups water (for white rice) or 2 ½ cups water (for brown rice)
  • 1 tablespoon oil or butter (optional, for a richer flavor)
  • 1 clove of minced garlic (optional, for an extra touch of flavor)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 bay leaf (optional, for a more sophisticated aroma)

Preparation:

  1. Wash the rice
The first step is to wash the rice to remove excess starch. Place the rice in a colander or bowl, add cold water and stir gently. Repeat the process until the water runs clear. This will help to make the rice fluffier.
  2. Prepare the slow cooker
Open the lid of the slow cooker and add the rinsed rice, water, salt, and oil or butter. If desired, add minced garlic and bay leaves for an extra touch of flavor. Stir quickly to distribute the ingredients evenly.
  3. Start cooking
Feche a tampa da panela elétrica e ligue o aparelho. Se sua panela tiver várias funções, selecione a opção para arroz branco ou arroz comum. Caso sua panela não tenha essa função, basta apertar o botão de “cozinhar” e aguardar.
  4. Let the pan do the work
The rice cooker will automatically adjust the time and temperature to cook the rice in the best possible way. During the process, the cooker will maintain the ideal temperature, ensuring that the rice is fluffy and cooked to perfection.
  5. Check the point
After the cooking time, the rice cooker will usually signal that the rice is ready. Open the lid and, if necessary, let the rice rest for 5 minutes so that the steam can distribute evenly. Use a fork to fluff the grains and check the texture. The rice should be soft and fluffy.
  6. Serve and enjoy.
After fluffing the grains with a fork, the rice is ready to be served! It pairs perfectly with a wide variety of dishes, from meat, fish and chicken to vegetable side dishes and salads.

Tips

  • Rice and water ratio: The water ratio may vary depending on the type of rice you are using. For white rice, the ideal ratio is 1:2 (1 cup of rice to 2 cups of water). For brown rice, the ideal ratio is 1:2.5.
  • Customize the flavor: In addition to garlic and bay leaves, you can add seasonings such as onion, pepper, grated carrot or even chopped vegetables, creating a colorful and flavorful rice.
  • Looser rice: For even fluffier rice, try adding a little oil or butter to the cooking water, which helps prevent the grains from sticking together.

Changes

  • Rice with vegetables: Add grated carrots, peas or corn to the cooking water for colorful and nutritious rice.
  • Coconut rice: For an exotic touch, replace some of the water with coconut milk. The rice will be creamier and have a mild, delicious flavor.
  • Rice with garlic and onion: Sauté the onion and garlic in oil or butter before adding the rice and water. This creates a more intense and aromatic flavor.
