Ingredients
For the Cake:
- 1 cup wheat flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil (or other oil of your choice)
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup orange juice (approximately 2 oranges)
- Zest of 1 orange
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 pinch of salt
For the Cover (optional):
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons orange juice (adjust consistency)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In another bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar until you get a creamy mixture.
- Add the oil, orange juice and orange zest to the egg mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until the batter is smooth.
- Preheat Air Fryer:
- Preheat the air fryer to 160°C for 5 minutes.
- Prepare the Form:
- Use a small pan that will fit in the air fryer basket (a 6-7 inch cake pan is ideal). If you don't have a non-stick pan, grease it with butter and sprinkle with flour or use parchment paper to make it easier to remove the cake.
- Pour the Batter and Cook:
- Pour the batter into the prepared tin.
- Place the cake pan in the air fryer basket and cook at 160°C for 20-25 minutes. The time may vary depending on the model of your air fryer and the size of the pan. Do the toothpick test: insert a toothpick into the center of the cake; it should come out clean when the cake is done.
- Prepare the Topping (optional):
- While the cake is cooling, you can prepare the frosting. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and orange juice until the frosting is thick but runny.
- If desired, pour the frosting over the cooled cake.
- Finish and serve:
- Allow the cake to cool completely before unmolding.
- If you made the frosting, spread it over the cake after it has cooled.
Tips
- For an extra touch of flavor, you can add a little vanilla essence or a little spice like cinnamon to the dough.
- If you prefer, you can add pieces of candied orange or walnuts to the dough for a special touch.
