Banana chips are a crunchy and healthy snack that is easy to make in the air fryer. They are perfect for any time of day and for those on a diet, they are a wonderful option, as they are practical and quick! Here is a simple recipe for you to prepare delicious banana chips.

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe bananas (but not overripe; slightly unripe bananas work best for crispy chips)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional, to prevent bananas from turning brown)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, if you want a sweet touch)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bananas:
    • Peel the bananas and cut them into thin slices, about 2-3 mm thick. If you prefer, you can use a mandoline to ensure even, thin slices.
    • If using, place the banana slices in a bowl with the lemon juice to prevent them from browning. Let them soak for 5 minutes and then drain well.
  2. Season the Bananas:
    • If desired, mix the banana slices with ground cinnamon and sugar for a sweet and aromatic flavor.
  3. Preheat Air Fryer:
    • Preheat the air fryer to 160°C for 5 minutes.
  4. Cook the Chips:
    • Place the banana slices in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding the basket so that the chips are crispy and cooked through. If necessary, do this in batches.
    • Cook at 160°C for 10-15 minutes. Stir or shake the basket halfway through to ensure even cooking. The time may vary depending on the thickness of the slices and the model of your air fryer.
  5. Finish and serve:
    • Once the chips are golden brown and crispy, remove them from the air fryer and let them cool completely. They will crisp up even more as they cool.
    • Store in an airtight container to maintain crispiness.

Tips

  • To ensure the chips are crispy, do not put too many banana slices in the basket at once.
  • Try adding other seasonings to taste, like a pinch of nutmeg or a little cayenne pepper, for a more adventurous touch.
