Ingredients

  • 2 cups of milk (can be whole, skimmed or plant-based milk)
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder or chocolate powder
  • 1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 100 g chopped semisweet chocolate (or milk chocolate, if you prefer)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Whipped cream or marshmallows for serving (optional)

Preparation:

  1. Mix the dry ingredients: In a small bowl, mix together the cocoa powder, sugar, and cornstarch. This helps prevent lumps in the mixture.
  2. Heat the milk: In a medium saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat. Do not let it boil, just heat until it begins to steam.
  3. Add the chocolate mixture: Once the milk is heated, add the chocolate powder, sugar and starch mixture. Stir well with a wire whisk or wooden spoon to dissolve completely.
  4. Add the chopped chocolate: Continue stirring and add the chopped chocolate. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the chocolate has completely melted and the mixture is creamy.
  5. Finish: If desired, add vanilla essence and stir well. Taste and adjust sugar if necessary.
  6. Serve: Pour the creamy hot chocolate into mugs and, if desired, top with whipped cream or marshmallows.

Tips

  • For an even more intense flavor, try adding a pinch of cinnamon or a tablespoon of instant coffee to the mixture.
  • You can also vary the type of chocolate, using milk or white chocolate, depending on your preference.
